Take care this Territory Day

Police

NT Police are urging Territorians to take care when letting off fireworks this Territory Day.

Territory Duty Superintendent Nouvelle Reed said, "Fireworks on Territory Day are a great way to celebrate the Territory and its unique lifestyle however, we would like to remind the public to be careful and use common sense when it comes to fireworks.

"Fireworks are only allowed on July 1st and may only be ignited between 6.00pm and 11.00pm. Possession of fireworks outside of Territory Day, 1st July, is an offence" she said.

At around 4pm yesterday afternoon, Police arrested a 37-year-old male who was driving his car in Mc Lachlan Street in Darwin City who was lighting fireworks and throwing them out of his car window.

One of the fireworks landed in an empty block along the street causing a small grassfire. Police attended and located the driver who was issued with an infringement for lighting the fireworks and he was also arrested for drink driving, recording a reading of 0.134%

He has been bailed to appear in court at a later date.
