Suspicious person arrested – Darwin City

Police

Police would like to thank a vigilant member of the public for calling police after overhearing a conversation in a Darwin bar last night.
Members received reports of a suspicious person in Monsoons at approximately 11:00 pm after he allegedly stated to another patron that he had been involved in an assault that occurred on Little Oxford Street in Surry Hills, New South Wales on 11 January 2010.
Police monitored his movements utilising CCTV cameras and later arrested the 33-year-old.
It is alleged that the male stabbed a teenage female last month.
The 33-year-old man remains in police custody and is expected to be extradited by NSW Police within the coming days.
Superintendent Jamie Chalker said that this was a great example of members of the public and police working together.
"Thanks to this particularly vigilant member of the public, the use of CCTV footage and quick police work, this male is now off the streets and in police custody.
"I'd like to urge anyone else that may witness suspicious behaviour throughout the day or night, to also contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000" he said.
