Suspicious fires –Alice Springs - 4493315 & 4493308

Police and NT Fire and Rescue crews were called to two suspicious fires in Alice Springs at the weekend.

In the first incident a resident in Rubina Court woke just after midnight this morning to the smell of burning. She went to investigate and found her Toyota Landcruiser was alight in her driveway. Unknown offenders had set fire to books and clothing on the rear seat. The woman managed to extinguish the fire which caused extensive damage to the rear seat.

In the second incident which occurred a few minutes later, the occupant of a Mirus Court unit awoke to the smell of smoke and the sound of a small explosion.

He went downstairs to investigate and found a fire had been lit in a storeroom. Police managed to extinguish the blaze before fire crews arrived. Investigations into both fires are continuing.
