Suspicious disappearance – Peter Murphy

Detectives from the Major Crime Unit are currently in Alice Springs conducting further enquiries into the 2008 disappearance of Peter Wayne Murphy.

The last confirmed sighting of the then 46-year-old Mr Murphy was on the afternoon of Sunday the 17th of August, 2008, when he was last seen leaving the Town and Country Tavern in Alice Springs.

Police are treating his disappearance as suspicious and are investigating new leads.

Witnesses report that Mr Murphy met with a man at the rear of the tavern shortly before being sighted with two other males travelling northbound along the Stuart Highway in a white, single cab Holden Commodore utility with an alloy rollbar.

Police have released a COMFIT image of the male who was sighted at the rear of the tavern at the time Mr Murphy was seen leaving. Police are interested in speaking with anyone who may recognise this person.

Police are also interested in speaking with any person, who may have seen a vehicle matching this description driving around the Alice Springs area on the afternoon of the 17th of August, 2008. Police have released an image of a vehicle similar to the vehicle described by witnesses.
