Police are investigating the suspicious death of a man in Bloomfield Street, Alice Springs, last night.

Police received a report just before 9.30pm that a man had been seriously injured following an assault. The 49-year-old victim was taken to Alice Springs Hospital by ambulance and was declared deceased a short time later.

Police arrested a 39-year-old man at the scene and he is expected to be interviewed later today.

Members of the Regional Investigations Division are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. Police are calling for anyone who may have been in the area between 8.30pm and 9.30pm last night to come forward.
