Structure fire –Yulara - 4498954

Police

Police and Fire crews were called to a structure fire at the Yulara Resort last night.

A report was received just after 11.30pm that a building was on fire at the staff quarters in the Grevillea Grove complex. Fire crews attended and extinguished the blaze which appears to have started in the bathroom.

Station Officer Shaun Murphy said the unit sustained smoke and structural damage to the bathroom and kitchen. No-one was injured in the incident.

Mr Murphy said the unit was equipped with smoke alarms which were activated after the fire started.

"This is a timely reminder for everyone to ensure their residences are equipped with working smoke alarms, " Mr Murphy said.

"April 1 is usually the day we encourage everyone to check their smoke alarms and install new batteries to ensure they are always in good working order."

Fire investigators are yet to determine the cause of the blaze but it is not deemed to be suspicious.
