Stranded motorists – Alice Springs

Police

Police were kept busy in Central Australia over the weekend following numerous reports of missing or stranded motorists.

Superintendent Sean Parnell said reports were received of three adults and three children in a car which became bogged on the Ernest Giles Road on Saturday.

Another group became stranded near Nyrippi after they ignored police advice and travelled from the community despite almost impassable road conditions.

Police also received reports of a group which was overdue after they travelled to Chambers Pillar, and another couple who went sight-seeing near Ross River.

"While all the parties were eventually located, it is disappointing that police and emergency services resources end up being utilised to try to assist these people, when simple common sense should have told them to avoid these roads after such bad weather conditions," Supt Parnell said.

"Police,. with the assistance of the media, put out warning after warning during these weather events and it's extremely frustrating that some people continue to ignore this advice."
