Stolen motor vehicle – Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested two 14-year-old male youths in relation to traffic offences and unlawful use of a motor vehicle in Alice Springs yesterday.

Police received the report of a stolen motor vehicle at approximately 1:15 am and were on their way to the scene when members observed the stolen vehicle travelling from Leichhardt Terrance onto Wills Terrace.

Police attempted a traffic apprehension but the driver failed to obey the directions of police and the vehicle was pursued in the vicinity of Araluen and Larapinta before being apprehended by Hermannsburg Police 15 kilometres east of Hermannsburg.

Both of the youths have been changed with the unlawful use of a motor vehicle .The driver received further charges of driving unlicensed, driving in a dangerous manner and fail to obey signal of police. He will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court tomorrow.

This incident comes after a series of ram raids, vehicles interferences and unlawful entries by youths on Tuesday morning.

An unknown number of offenders went on rampages in Larapinta and Desert Springs estates where six motor vehicles were stolen from five residences and three vehicles were interfered with.

Some of the stolen vehicles were then used in two ram raid incidents at the Northside Foodland and the Gap View Hotel. Extensive damage to each premises occurred as a result of the ram raids and a quantity of food and alcohol was stolen.

The six stolen vehicles have been found by police.

Police have arrested five male youths aged between 13 and 16 in relation to the incidents. The youths are currently assisting police with their enquiries and police anticipate further arrests.
