Police are investigating the theft of a Subaru station wagon which was involved in a pursuit in Alice Springs overnight.

A police patrol noticed the stolen car near the Tom Brown roundabout just after 11pm last night. The vehicle had been stolen from a Burke Street residence at the weekend. Police tried to pull the vehicle over after activating lights and sirens, however, the driver refused to stop and led police on a chase through Bradshaw Drive and Larapinta Drive before turning into Lovegrove Drive where police called off the pursuit.

The driver of the stolen vehicle allegedly reached speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour while travelling through the residential area.

The vehicle is described as being a white Subaru station wagon with Tasmanian registration DI 124. The vehicle was also involved in a drive-off at a service station earlier in the night.
