Stealing with violence - Wanguri

NT Police are calling for public assistance after a taxi driver was assaulted in Wanguri overnight.

It is alleged the 41-year-old male driver was stopped by three males on Steele Street at approximately 12:30 am last night. The men approached the vehicle and are alleged to have punched the driver a number of times to the head before entering the vehicle and removing money and personal items.

The victim fearing for his safety activated the horn on a number of occasions, undid his seatbelt and exited the vehicle calling for help. At which time the men fled on foot towards the Casuarina Pool area.

The first male is described as being around 170cm tall, of Aboriginal appearance, around 19 - 20 years of age, athletic build with black hair and was wearing dark shorts and a t-shirt at the time of the offence.
The second male is described as about 18-years-old, approx 175cm tall, of Maori/pacific island appearance, solid build and was wearing a dark t-shirt.
The third male is said to be about 170cm tall, of an athletic build, wearing dark shorts and dark t-shirt at the time of the incident.

It is believed the offenders fled with the man's wallet containing some cash as well as money bag containing the driver's takings

The victim was conveyed to RDH by ambulance with facial injuries and has since been discharged.

Police conducted patrols of the area however were unable to locate the offenders.



Superintendent Peter Gordon said this was a cowardly attack.

"NT Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have further information to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000" he said.
