Stay safe this long weekend

Police

NT Police are reminding the public to stay safe when out on the roads and water this Labour Day long weekend.

Long weekends are a great opportunity for people to get out of town and have a good time, however NT Police warn those driving home from parties or heading out on the water not to drink and drive and stay safe.

Duty Superintendent John Emeny said: "There is just no excuse for drink driving and sitting in a police cell is not a good way to spend a long weekend, so think twice before getting behind the wheel."

Police also remind people heading out on the water this weekend, fishing or boating, to carry all safety gear including life jackets, flares, EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon).

"Fishermen should also make sure they have sufficient stores and fuel and ensure some one knows where their going and when they will return," Superintendent Emeny said.

"Even though the dry season is on its way, it is still important to check the weather and tides when heading out on the water; have a great weekend and stay safe."
