On Monday 2 August at about 11:30 pm, police received the report of a single vehicle rollover approximately 3kms from Maningrida community.

It is believed that the vehicle rolled several times before crashing into a tree, with the driver being ejected from the vehicle as it rolled, landing approximately 15 metres from the crash scene.

The driver, who was the sole occupant, is alleged to have been consuming alcohol within the Maningrida community prior to the incident. It also appears that speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

The 23-year-old man was in a critical condition when he was airlifted to the Royal Darwin Hospital. He was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit with life threatening injuries but died shortly after 1:30 am today.

The road toll now stands at 31, compared to 16 at the same time last year.
