Single Vehicle Rollover - Kakadu Highway

Police

A 36-year-old woman is lucky to have walked away from a single vehicle rollover on the Kakadu Highway late this afternoon. Police, Fire, Medical Centre staff and Rangers attended a single vehicle rollover approximately 8kms past the Jim Jim Falls turnoff. The sole occupant of the vehicle was driving from Darwin to Cooinda and has allegedly fallen asleep at wheel. It appears that the vehicle has then crossed over to the wrong side of the road, hit a traffic sign and become airborne rolling several times before coming to a rest on its side. Alcohol is not considered to have been a factor in this accident, but police again urge the public not to drive when fatigued. Duty Superintendent Louise Jorgensen implored drivers to take care and rest if sleepy when driving. "With yet another fatality earlier this afternoon and such high road toll for the year, drivers must remain vigilant and keep themselves safe when behind the wheel," she said.
