A 25-year-old man will face court for the aggravated sexual assault of a woman in Alice Springs in October this year.

Police received confirmation of the man's identity through DNA testing of evidence left at the scene.

The alleged offender , who is currently in jail for unrelated matters, will be summonsed to appear in court to answer charges in relation to the sexual assault of a 67-year-old woman at her home in Lyndavale Drive on October 9. The man allegedly attacked the woman after she went outside in the early hours of the morning to lock her gate. The man allegedly followed her back inside and assaulted her. Forensic evidence was taken from the scene for testing and police were advised of the results this week.

The man is expected to appear in court next month.
