Sexual assault - Nhulunbuy

Police

Police are calling for public assistance after a 23-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Nhulunbuy early Wednesday morning.

Police were alerted to the incident after the victim made disclosures to her family that she assaulted sometime between 12:00am and 6:00am after she was picked in the CBD by the alleged offenders. The offenders are believed to have been driving a dark four wheel drive.

The victim is deaf and unable to talk.

Members from Katherine Investigations, Major Crime along with Forensic Investigators have travelled to Nhulunbuy to assist with the investigation.

Detectives have limited information at this stage due to communication difficulties and are calling for public assistance.

Senior Sergeant Brendan Muldoon urges anyone with further information to contact police.

"It is alleged the woman was assaulted between the hours of 12:00 am and 6:00am on Wednesday near the Nhulunbuy Golf Course. There are a lot of walking tracks in that area so we are hoping some one may have seen or heard something while walking in the area".
