Police are investigating an incident in Alice Springs in which a woman was sexually assaulted in her home.

The 22-year-old victim told police she was asleep in her Grant Road unit on Saturday morning when she was woken around 6am to find a man sexually assaulting her. The offender fled when he noticed the woman had woken up.

Another occupant of the house also woke and saw the offender leaving by the kitchen door. He is described as being of short stocky build wearing a black and white checkered jumper with a hood and white shoes.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area of Grant Road, Saltwell Street or Patterson Crescent between 4am and 6.30am on Saturday and who may have seen a person matching the description to come forward.
