A 15-year-old male has been charged with unlawfully causing serious harm following an assault in Alice Springs on Tuesday night.

The youth was allegedly involved in a large disturbance in Musgrave Street during which a 20-year-old Sudanese man suffered serious head injuries. The victim remains in the Intensive Care Unit at the Alice Springs Hospital in a critical condition.

Police investigations led to the arrest of the 15-year-old - also a Sudanese - on Wednesday morning.

He has been bailed to appear in the Youth Justice Court today. (Thursday)
