Search for body– Update #1 - Alice Springs

Police

The search for the body of Peter Wayne Murphy who went missing in Alice Springs in August 2008 is continuing.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Pollock said members of the Territory Response Section had travelled to Alice Springs this week to conduct an extensive search of the area where the body is believed to have been buried. Last month NT Police received information from Queensland Police that Mr Murphy had been murdered and buried at a site north of Alice Springs.

As a result of the information 31-year-old Adam Filippone was extradited from Queensland to the Northern Territory and charged with murder. He has been remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on June 22.

A Queensland Police cadaver dog was flown to Alice Springs last month to assist in the search for Mr Murphy's body, however no remains have yet been found.

Should this week's search fail to provide any evidence of Mr Murphy's body, police will consider using Ground Penetrating Radar to find any remains.
