School Holiday Program - Binjari

Police

Boredom will be a thing of the past for local Binjari kids, this school holiday break.

A school holiday program will be run over four weeks including fishing, sports, arts, craft, cooking, skating, movies and alcohol and other drug education.

Blue light discos will also be arranged for each weekday of this period.

The school holiday program is an initiative of the Katherine Interagency Tasking and Coordination Group, as part of a program to combat crime and violence at Binjari by providing positive role models and fun and challenging activities.

Katherine YMCA, supported by the NT Police, have been the driving force behind the program and are working in partnership with other youth agencies including Somerville, Mission Australia and Linkz.

Katherine Police have committed significant resources to the program as it is a great example of the community and local organisations working in partnership to keep the kids of Binjari safe.

Commander Jeanette Kerr said it will be another great example of how the Katherine community, along with youth agencies, can work together, sharing resources to make a difference for our young people.

"Extensive preparation has gone into this program in an effort to minimise boredom and provide an alternative to what otherwise would invariable lead to antisocial behavior and put these young people at risk of harm," she said.
