Safety Advice - Flooded Roads - Alice Springs

Police

Alice Springs Police are urging motorists to travel with extreme caution after heavy rains in the area over the past 24 hours.

Currently, the South Stuart Highway at the Palmer River is four-wheel-drive-only and the Lasseters Highway near the Imanpa turn off is impassable and closed to all traffic due to flood waters. Police are at both locations ensuring vehicles do not attempt to cross the flooded areas to avoid injury and damage to the road.

Luritja Road is also is closed to traffic.

The roads are expected to be closed for at least a couple of hours.

Police are also urging the public to refrain from travelling on unsealed roads in the Fink, Kulerga, Harts Bluff and surrounding areas as all of these roads are now unpassable.

For further information on road conditions in the area please see http://www.ntlis.nt.gov.au/roadreport/.

Updates will be provided as further information comes to hand.
