Police

Police are investigating a robbery which occurred at McDonalds take-away in Alice Springs yesterday afternoon.

Police received a report just after 1.30pm that a man had been assaulted and a car had its windows smashed by a woman wielding an iron bar.

The 16-year-old female driver of the vehicle told police she was travelling through the drive-through at McDonalds when a woman approached her car and smashed the passenger side window with an iron bar. The 18-year-old male passenger was also hit around the legs by the woman before he managed to get out of the car and run across the road to phone police.

Meanwhile the woman continued hitting the car with the iron bar, breaking the back window. The female driver and a 12-year-old girl who was the rear passenger, left the vehicle and ran into McDonalds for help. The offender then allegedly rummaged through the car taking a wallet containing >, a hat and the car keys before leaving in a small blue hatchback. The male victim told police from what the offender was saying it appeared she had mistaken him for someone else as the occupants of the vehicle did not know her.

The offender is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, around 30 years old of a medium build and wearing a long-sleeved purple shirt.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Anyone with information should phone police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
