The north-bound lane of the Stuart Highway will be closed for most of today following a road train rollover near Elliott overnight.

Police and Fire and Emergency Response Groups from Elliott and Tennant Creek were called to the scene six kilometres south of Elliott just after 2.30am. They found a road train towing three trailers partly rolled after the third trailer became unstable. The road train came to rest in the northbound lane spilling it's cargo across both lanes of the highway.

Traffic will continue to be diverted around the scene for most of the day and motorists are urged to drive with caution. Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
