A woman and a boy had a lucky escape after they were rescued from the fast flowing Charles Creek on Friday night.
Police received a report just after midnight that a woman had become trapped in the rapidly rising river as she was returning to Hoppy's Camp. She managed to climb a tree as the waters rose to within a metre below her. NT Fire and Rescue, Police and NTES members attended and managed to rescue the woman.
After assessing the situation firefighters crossed the rapidly rising Charles River in a 4WD tanker to get to a position to affect the rescue. After several attempts a firefighter using a life-vest and rescue lines crossed the fast flowing river to reach the distressed woman. The woman was secured and hauled to safety by the NT Fire and Rescue members.
A 14-year-old boy was also found to be stranded in the middle of the river in the same area. He was guided to safety by fire crews.
