Ram Raid - Alice Springs - 4615864

Police

Police are investigating an incident in Alice Springs last night in which a stolen car was used in a ram raid.

Police received a report just before 2.30am that a vehicle had been used to break-into the rear of Eastside Foodland in Lindsay Avenue. Police said the Toyota Hilux had earlier been stolen from a property in Standley Crescent. Thieves used the vehicle to force open metal gates at the rear of the supermarket. The vehicle then rammed roller doors to give the thieves access to the store. Once inside the offenders removed 14 cartons of 700ml bottles of Jim Beam valued at more than $7000.

They then fled in the vehicle which was recovered in Albrecht Drive some time later.

Police from the Property Crime Reduction Unit are examining CCTV footage which shows three offenders involved in the incident. Police said the offenders appear to be the same males involved in an earlier attempted ram-raid at Flynn Drive Supermarket which was unsuccessful.

Police are appealing to anyone with information to call 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
