At about 12:20am this morning police arrested a 17-year-old male in relation to driving offences.

The youth was detected driving a Mitsubishi Lancer on Bougainvillea Street towards Progress Drive, with no lights on. Members were travelling to his residence to enforce a current bail condition of curfew.

Police directed the driver to pull over however he proceeded to turn onto Progress Drive, accelerating away from police.

The pursuit ended at Waters Street after the youth crashed the vehicle into a gutter. The youth did not receive any injuries.

The vehicle was stolen from a residence in Nightcliff. The owner was notified and arranged for the vehicle to be towed from the scene.

The male was charged with the following offences:

Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
Fail to comply with Police Officers direction

Duty Superintendent Mike Murphy said 'The proactive efforts by the frontline officers through bail enforcement not only detected the youth in the commission of further offences, but clearly eliminated the opportunity for the youth to carry out any further intentions of unlawful activity he had'.
