Police received a report just after 4.30pm that a prison officer had been stabbed to the neck by one of the prisoners in G Block. The 38-year-old male victim was allegedly lunged at by the 41-year-old offender who then stabbed him with a makeshift knife a number of times to the neck. Other prison officers rushed to his aid and the prisoner was restrained.

The prison officer was taken to Alice Springs Hospital where he received stitches to the wounds and allowed to leave.

Detectives from the Regional Investigations Division are investigating the incident.
