Police bust bicyclist - Brinkin

Police

Police have arrested a 33-year-old male after witnessing him riding a bicycle without a helmet near the Dripstone Cliffs.

Members were patrolling the Brinkin area when they witnessed the male riding without a helmet at approximately 3:00pm yesterday.

A search of his person was conducted, subsequently locating a number of stolen items including an Ipod, mobile phone and two bags of what is believed to be amphetamine.

He was arrested and charged with failing to wear a bike helmet, unlawfully possess property and possess a dangerous drug in a public place.

He is to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court today.

Territory Duty Superintendent Craig Ryan said that this not only sends a message to drug and property crime offenders but also to people riding bikes.

"Police patrol Territory streets at all hours of the day and night and if you're breaking the law in any way shape or form, you will be apprehended" he said.
