A 40-year-old pilot sustained multiple fractures after the plane he was flying crashed on landing at Austral Downs yesterday.

Avon Downs police attended the scene and were told that the pilot had just completed cattle mustering operations when the Cessna 172-S crashed on landing. The pilot, who was the only occupant of the plane, sustained extensive injuries and he was airlifted to Townsville Hospital by RFDS.

Investigations into the crash are continuing.
