Pedestrian Struck – Leanyer – 4456175

Police

Police have arrested a 21-year-old male after the vehicle he was driving allegedly struck a 44-year-old female pedestrian in Leanyer at approximately 10:00pm last night.

It is believed that the female was attempting to cross the road opposite the Hibiscus Shopping Centre on Vanderlin Drive, when she was struck by a silver Subaru Liberty sedan.

It is alleged that the male failed to stop at the scene or report the crash to police.

Witnesses at the scene reported the registration number of the vehicle to police. Acting on information, the offender was later located at an address and arrested.

It is believed that speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors in the crash.

The woman was rushed to the Royal Darwin Hospital with severe injuries where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

The male is currently in police custody pending further investigations.
