Operation Exocet

Police

As schools across the Territory come to a close this week, the NT Police Youth Crime Unit will commence their school holiday operation targeting anti social behaviour and property crime.

Operation Exocet will focus on known property offenders in the Darwin area with regular checks on offenders with bail conditions and high visibility patrols around Darwin.

Sergeant Jeff Mosel from the Youth Crime Unit said "A lot of property crime is committed by youths and we know who the repeat offenders are and we will be monitoring them throughout the school holidays"

Police remind parents to be vigilant in knowing where their children are, particularly at night.

"These offenders are getting younger and younger and are susceptible to peer pressure from older trouble makers, we urge parents to stay vigilant and regularly check up on your children" said Sergeant Mosel.

Operation Exocet members will specifically focus on the Northern Suburbs and Palmerston talking to youths and take a proactive approach to addressing antisocial behaviour.

The operation officially commences on Monday 13 December 2010 and will run until Tuesday 25 January 2011.

"We continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activity or if they believe a crime is being committed. Such information is vital for the Operation's success".

"The public can report such information by calling 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000".
