NTFRS Fundraising for Pensioners Christmas Party

Police

The Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) are calling upon the generosity of the public as they begin fundraising for the 41st annual Aged Pensioners Christmas Party.

NTFRS members will hit the streets from Thursday 05th November with buckets in hand hoping to raise money needed for the pensioners' party.

The event was kicked off in 1970 by Station Commander Brian Chong Wee, a NTFRS member that served for more than 30 years.

The first party saw a meagre 30 attendees; however 500 aged pensioners are expected to attend the festivities this year.

The 2010 Aged Pensioners Christmas Party will be held from 11:00 am on Sunday 12th December at the Kalymnos club, Marrara.

Organiser of the event, and Officer In Charge of the Jabiru Fire Station, Tex Tourell, said that he hopes this year's party will bring together Darwin's Aged Pensioner community to begin celebrating the festive season.

"We are hoping that the 41st anniversary of the party is bigger and better than it has been in previous years.

"Their will be a colourful assortment of food at the venue as well as free buses to get party goers to and from the event," he said.
