NT Police have charged a 39 year-old Police Officer following an internal investigation by the Ethical and Professional Standards Command.

The criminal investigation commenced following receipt of a complaint against police.

The Officer has been charged with 'Unlawfully Cause Serious Harm' and 'Aggravated Assault' and has been summonsed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrate Court on 14 October 2010.

The Officer has been suspended today on full pay under section 76(a) of the Police Administration Act pending the outcome of the Court case.
