Calls for grant applications up to a value of $75,000 are now sought for the Northern Territory Disaster Resilience Fund for 2010-11.

Through a National Partnership Agreement between the Northern Territory Government and the Australian Government, the Natural Disaster Resilience Program focuses on building resilience in communities to withstand natural disasters.

As part of this program, the NT Disaster Resilience Fund will fund natural disaster resilience works, measures and related activities that contribute to safer, sustainable and resilient communities better able to withstand the effects of natural disasters. The Fund will provide 50 percent of the costs of the project or a maximum of $75,000 if the project cost is $150,000 or more.

Chief Minster Paul Henderson said the Northern Territory Government is a proud partner in this initiative and committed to the continued resourcing of these community resilience initiatives throughout the Territory.

"These grants provide a significant financial contribution to assist organisations and local agencies in establishing projects that provide a tangible resilience benefit to communities," he said.

"As we head out of the wet season, this is an excellent time for agencies and organisations to reflect on the past few months and consider what resources could contribute to improving the resilience of a community."

The grants are now open and submissions are required by 5pm, 4 June 2010. For further details on eligibility, application form and how to submit a grant proposal valued up to $75,000, visit funding programs at www.emergency.nt.gov.au.
