Police

Darwin Police apprehended a 27-year-old man last night after he was seen riding a motorcycle on a foot path in Parap.

Police sighted the man riding the dirt bike on the foot path near the Parap water tower at approximately 11:30 pm.

Upon apprehending the man, Police discovered he was in possession of two knives, including a large hunting knife.

The man then underwent a breath analysis, returning a high-range reading of .228 per cent.

Police also discovered that the motorbike was both unregistered and uninsured.

The 27-year-old was arrested and has been charged with the following offences:

Drive with high range blood alcohol content
Drive an unregistered motor vehicle
Drive an uninsured motor vehicle
Drive a motor vehicle whilst unlicensed
Possess/Carry/Use Controlled weapon - night
Drive a motor vehicle unsafe to drive
Drive a vehicle on footpath

The offender is currently in Police custody and will appear at Darwin Magistrates Court today.

Officer In Charge at Darwin City Police Station, Michael Hebb, said this incident highlighted the need for people to behave in a way that does not risk their safety, or the safety of others.

"The offender was significantly influenced by alcohol, carrying weapons, and demonstrating little regard for his own safety or the safety of others by riding a motorbike on a footpath.

"The Police Officers handled the situation well and were able to take the man into custody before anyone was hurt," he said.
