Methamphetamine seizure - Darwin

Police



The 52-year-old woman was pulled over by police for the purpose of a traffic apprehension on Tiger Brennan Drive in Bayview at around 3:00 pm.

A consequential search of her Mazda 626 was conducted with members locating 11 grams of methamphetamines.

The woman has been charged with:

- Supply methamphetamine - trafficable quantity
- Possess methamphetamine - trafficable quantity
- Possess methamphetamine

She received bail and is due to appear at the Darwin Magistrates Court on 27 January 2011.

Members also pulled over a 35-year-old man on Tiwi Gardens Road at about 6:30 pm for the purpose of a traffic apprehension.

A search of the Ford Falcon Utility was conducted with members locating:

- two clip seal bags containing methamphetamine (.2 grams)
- two clip seal bags containing cannabis (2 grams)
- one glass pipe
- digital scales
- 1 x wooden baton
- 1 x fold out knife
- a large amount of cash

The man was arrested and taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital for the purpose of a blood test after displaying signs of being under the influence of a drug.

The man was charged with:

- Possess a dangerous drug (cannabis)
- Possess schedule 2 drug (methamphetamine) - not trafficable
- Possess carry use controlled weapon
- Armed with an offensive weapon
- Possess thing-administer dangerous drug
- Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
- Drive unregistered motor vehicle
- Drive with prohibited drug in blood

He is due to face the Darwin Magistrates Court on 27 January 2011.

Senior Sergeant Peter Malley said police are out in force during Operation RAID and drivers can expect to be caught if they are doing the wrong thing.

"Getting behind the wheel under the influence of a drug is a dangerous act and will not be tolerated by police.

"Officers will continue to conduct random traffic apprehensions and searches of vehicles in an effort to keep people safe on our roads.
