Locals Chat to the CAT

Police

The Child Abuse Taskforce were in full force in the Smith St Mall today to promote Child Protection Week. The team, consisting of a multi agency collaboration between Northern Territory Police, the Dept of Health and Families and the Australian Federal Police, set out to spread the message that children should be empowered and child abuse is not tolerated in the Northern Territory. OIC of the Child Abuse Taskforce, Senior Sergeant Scott Manley said this week is a good opportunity for us to remind the public that we're here and it's Child Protection Week. "This week is a great way for our team to engage with Territorians and encourage children to speak up. "Reporting is mandatory in the Northern Territory and CAT operates a Hotline number 1800 700 250 for members of the public to report incidents of child abuse. The Child Abuse Taskforce was formed in 2006 with the aim of providing a coordinated investigative response to complex child abuse cases reported in the Northern Territory.
"We all want a safe and healthy environment for our kids. When a child is abused the physical and mental pain can often last a lifetime so please speak up," OIC Scott Manley said. Media Contact: Rebecca Forrest 8901 0256
