Letterbox thefts – Alice Springs

Police

Police are investigating a spate of letterbox thefts in Alice Springs this week.

Police received a report just after 11am yesterday that a number of letterboxes had been dumped in the carpark near the Eastside netball courts.

Police recovered nine letterboxes which appear to have been removed some time in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Police are urging victims who may have had their letterboxes removed or damaged to come forward. The letterboxes are awaiting collection at the Alice Springs Police Station in Parson Street.

Senior Sergeant Darrell Kerr said it appears most of the items had been unbolted from their anchor points rather than wrenched from their moorings.

"We do know that at least one of them was stolen from a residence in Dixon Road on the Northside, but we have no information about the rest. It's also quite likely this is the work of juveniles and police are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the early hours of Wednesday morning to come forward."

Anyone with information should phone 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
