Ramingining Police have arrested four men and one woman following the seizure of 18kg of kava last night.

At 3pm yesterday afternoon police apprehended a Mitsubishi Challenger 60 kms from the Bulman Community after receiving information that illicit substances were being conveyed into the Ramingining Community.

Upon searching the vehicle, police detected 15 shopping bags of kava concealed in the vehicle.

The estimated price of the kava sold within the community would have been around $35,000.

The vehicle and drugs have been seized the four males aged 40, 30, 34 and 24 and one female aged 38 were taken into custody and later charged with possession of a commercial quantity of kava and supplying kava without a licence.

They have been bailed to appear at Maningrida Court on 5th March 2010
