Kava Seizure - Beswick

Over $80,000 worth of kava and alcohol has been seized by Maranboy Police following a vehicle apprehension in the early hours of Sunday morning. Police apprehended the vehicle approximately 7kms west of Beswick on the Central Arnhem Highway at 2.45 am, the search yielding the commercial quantity of kava. In total, more than 80 kilograms of kava was located in suitcases in the boot of the vehicle, distributed amongst thousands of individual small deal bags and several larger clipseal bags. A quantity of alcohol was also located in a sports bag inside the vehicle. Two Ramingining men have been charged with the following offences; Possession of a commercial quantity of kava Supply a commercial quantity of kava without a licence Bring liquor into a prescribed area A Darwin woman and a Sydney man have been charged with; Possession of a commercial quantity of kava Supply a commercial quantity of kava without a licence It is believed that the kava and alcohol was destined for Ramingining and Millingimbi. "Police will continue to target Kava traffickers into the Territory. I encourage all community members to report these drug dealers, before they destroy your community and your family with this insidious drug" said A/Commander Helen Braam of Katherine and Northern Regional Command.
All offenders have been bailed to appear in Katherine Magistrates Court on 16th November.
