Katherine youths arrested

Police

Katherine Police are continuing their investigations into a spate of unlawful entries and vehicle thefts in the town over the weekend.

Already three male youths, two aged 10 and the third aged 14, have been arrested.

Police allege the trio were part of a larger group of young offenders who entered the All Seasons Hotel in Katherine between Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

They then proceeded to enter three rooms and at one point, removed a set of car keys and a bottle of alcohol.

Offenders then located a new Toyota Yaris and pushed it out onto the road before driving it throughout the Katherine area, hitting objects with the vehicle causing extensive damage and abandoning it on a hill behind Glencoe Court after it became stuck on rocks.

The offenders were also allegedly involved in an unlawful entry on a number of rooms at the Katherine High School that had occurred within the same time period and caused over $10,000 damage. The offenders ransacked the cooking room and two computer rooms and stole a digital camera during the incident.

The three offenders arrested so far have been interviewed and charged with offences including unlawful entry and placed on strict bail conditions which include curfews and non-association conditions.

Police are continuing enquires regarding a number of outstanding offenders who are yet to be located.
