Police

Police are investigating an incident last night in which a woman woke to find an armed intruder in her room.

Police received a report from the 28-year-old victim that she and a work colleague were sharing an apartment at the Quest apartments in South Terrace. The victim said she woke just after 3.30am to find a man in her room armed with a knife. When she screamed he came towards her with the knife and covered her mouth. The woman managed to grab the knife and poke the offender in the eyes. She then ran to her colleague's room where they locked themselves in and phoned police.

Police said it appeared the offender entered the apartment after smashing the glass sliding door.

The victim described the offender as being a male of Aboriginal appearance, in his early 20s and approximately 180 cm tall. He was wearing tartan coloured shorts and a white v-necked t-shirt.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information about the offender to phone 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
