Interfere with motor vehicles– Alice Springs

Police

Alice Springs residents are being warned to lock up their vehicles after a number of cars were interfered with in the Golf Course estate.

Police received six reports of vehicles being unlawfully entered on Sunday night or Monday morning and in four of the incidents the cars were unlocked. Vehicles in Hillside Gardens, the Links, Eagle Court and Lakes Court were effected.

Police also received a report from a resident in the Links that offenders had entered his front yard and removed a 25hp Evinrude boat motor from his boat.

Superintendent Sean Parnell said police believe the series of interfere with motor vehicles were connected.

"We believe it's highly likely this series of offences were committed by the same offenders," Superintendent Parnell said.

"Police are door knocking the area today and taking statements from victims, however what is of concern to us is the number of unlocked vehicles involved.

"It's clear some people are too complacent about the security of their property and don't worry about locking their cars, but it's also evident offenders have discovered these vehicles are easy targets. In one case there was even a wallet left in an unlocked car which had $250 in it.

"Our message is always the same: Don't make it easy for opportunistic offenders. Lock your vehicles and your homes and don't leave valuables in plain sight."

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information about this spate of offences to ring them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
