Alice Springs Police are coordinating an interagency operation that will commence tonight and run until Sunday morning.
The operation is in response to anti-social behaviour and potential criminal activity of groups of youth in the CBD area, including Gap Road.
Agencies aim to identify young people with welfare, lifestyle or substance abuse issues and provide links to diversionary opportunities, education or government services.
The agencies included in the police operation include:
* Northern Territory Families and Children Street Outreach Service
* Family Support Centre
* Licensing Inspectors
* Alice Springs Town Council Rangers
* Tangentyere Council Youth and Night Patrol
* Central Australian Aboriginal Congress After Hours Service
* JASP Security patrol members
"Patrols will be carried out in the CBD area with teams made up of police members and representatives from other agencies" Superintendent Michael White said.
"The primary objective is to be preventative and identify youth with welfare, lifestyle or substance abuse issues and take appropriate action and provide assistance and referrals. We are interested in engaging with youth and assisting those in need, while raising the profile of service providers".
