Hoon’s car impounded – Alice Springs

Police

A 20-year-old man has had his car impounded after police received reports he was hooning.

The man's Ford Courier utility has been impounded for 48 hours after police received reports from members of the public the vehicle was repeatedly seen hooning in and around Ashwin Street, Alice Springs.

Sergeant Conan Robertson said the man was also issued with a traffic infringement notice for $210 and will lost three demerit points. He will also have to pay up to $280 for towing and storage costs.

"If he is caught again in the next two years police can apply to impound the vehicle for up to six months, and then if he is caught a third time within that period, police can make application to have the car forfeited to the Commissioner," Sgt Robertson said.

"This man has lost his car for the next couple of days because of reports from members of the public. It's clear people are sick and tired of having to put up with this sort of dangerous and anti-social behaviour and are deciding to do something about it, and any other hoons out there should be put on notice that they can also expect to lose their vehicles if they're caught.

Sergeant Robertson said this was the fifth vehicle impounded in Alice Springs under the anti-hooning legislation since it came into effect in June last year.
