Police have charged a 26-year-old man in relation to hooning and drink driving offences early this morning.

At about 1:50am police witnessed the man perform burnouts while driving a silver Holden Commodore on a street in Gray.

Police allege the man continued the burnout until his right rear tyre blew out causing damage to the road before attempting to flee the area.

The offender was apprehended on Cornwallis Circuit in Gray and subjected to a road side breath test. He was conveyed to Darwin Watch House where he provided a positive blood alcohol content reading of 0.095 percent.

The vehicle was seized under the Anti Hooning Legislation and will be impounded for 24 hours.
