Hit and Run – Humpty Doo

At approximately 10:00am this morning Police were called to an incident where two cars were involved in a vehicle crash on the Arnhem Highway near Freds Pass.

Humpty Doo Police heard the crash and were at the scene immediately.

Fire and Rescue Services and St John Ambulance attended the scene and conveyed one person to Royal Darwin Hospital.

The driver of a Hilux ute involved in the crash left the scene of the incident.

He was located within an hour and a half of the incident and will be summoned to appear in court to be charged with

driving while unlicensed
not stopping after an accident
failing to give way at an intersection

It is believed the injured person was not wearing a seatbelt.

Watch Commander, Greg Pusterla said the injured person sustained two broken legs and a broken arm which may have been prevented had she been wearing a seatbelt.

"Incidents like these can be easily avoided from taking a bit more care on the roads and obeying basic road rules.

"I urge all Territorians to take care on the roads and assist Police to make this long weekend a fatal free Easter weekend," he said.
