Helicopter crash –Ti Tree

A 59-year-old man has been airlifted to Alice Springs Hospital after an incident in which the helicopter he was flying landed heavily at a Central Australian station this morning.

Police from Ti Tree and Ali Curung travelled to Neutral Junction Station approximately 90 kilometres north of Ti Tree after they received a report just after 11am that the helicopter had crashed on landing. People at a nearby community heard the gyrocopter lose power and reported it to the station. Workers from Neutral Junction Station then located the crash site and assisted the pilot until ambulance crews arrived.

The victim said his gyrocopter lost power approximately 100 feet off the ground and came down hard. He was injured in the crash and was airlifted to the Alice Springs Hospital.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
