NT Police and the Fire and Rescue Service attended a Hazmat incident in Darwin City earlier today.

Authorities were called to the scene after a suspicious substance began to emit a smell at the Customs House building in Lindsay Street.

Lindsay Street was closed to the public between Woods and Cavenagh Streets for approximately half an hour while the Fire and Rescue Service cleared the item.

NT Police and Customs are conducting further investigations into the matter.
