Elliot Police are urging motorists to slow down and stay vigilant when travelling in the Elliot area due to smoke over the road.

The Elliot Fire Emergency Response Group is currently fighting a fire south of Elliot and heading towards the town. NT Police and Fire and Rescue personnel have evacuated South Camp, the local school and Caravan Park as a precaution.

All persons are being evacuated to Town Park as a safe area.

Police are urging motorists to avoid the area if possible and slow down if smoke is covering the roads.
