Graduation of Firefighter Recruit Squad 1/2010

Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service's newest firefighters will graduate from their training at a ceremony at the Darwin Fire Station today.

Seven members from Squad 1/2010 will graduate in front of the Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, the Honourable Paul Henderson MLA and His Honour the Administrator of the Northern Territory Mr. Tom Pauling, AO, QC.

The recruit firefighters were subject to a strenuous 16 week course, including training for structure fires, bushfires, road accident rescue and hazardous materials.

They participated in a vast range of work activities to prepare them with the latest techniques and skills for use during their career with the NT Fire and Rescue Service.

The majority of the recruits have come from interstate with only two originally from the Territory.

Two of the new firefighters will remain in Darwin and the remaining five will travel down to Alice Springs to commence their careers.

Fire and Rescue Service Director Greg Nettleton said the value that the community places on the NT Fire and Rescue Service related to the quality of its firefighters and the valuable service they provide.

"We recruit the best people for the job to provide the best possible service to the community," he said.

He wished the new firefighters success in their careers with the NT Fire and Rescue Service.
